Introduction

With the launch of AMD’s 4000 series processors and the Asus TUF Gaming A15, There has been a lot of excitement as the Asus TUF Gaming A15 is the first gaming laptop to land in India with it. The review sees the processor as a performance beast, improving performance by a large number of metrics, but by as much as 100 per cent. Various gaming benchmarks found that the laptop offers very good frame rates and the rendering time in Adobe applications were cut in half compared to everything we’ve tested in the midrange gaming segment. The keyboard and trackpad of this machine are nice and the selection of ports is quite generous, as is its heavy left-side location. Lastly, the Gaming A15 is also user upgradeable when it comes to storage and RAM, preparing the laptop for the future to some degree, especially if you’re getting a low-end model.

Gaming Tests and Benchmarks

Let’s get straight to the point. How does the Asus TUF Gaming A15 fair work on its main objective? Damn good! The Ryzen 7 4800H and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti are a great combination, pushing most modern titles much more than the minimum of 60 fps. Several popular games running at 1080p were tested, in their high and medium preset graphics settings. Average frame rates are in the table below.

Creative professionals usually turn to gaming machines in order to meet the demands of Photo-editing, video-editing and much more which require a heaby usage of the GPU. Gaming laptops have the potentiadouble up as editing machines. Nvidia has even created the Studio drivers for their GeForce GPUs so as to improve the performance of photo, video and 3D creation tools. Some tests were performed on how long it would take for Adobe Lightroom Classic to export a batch of 50, 100, 250 and 500 RAW files that have been shot on a Nikon D800 and were compared to the export times with that of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G (GA502) powered by last year’s Ryzen 7 3750H. The numbers are shocking, to say the least. The Asus TUF Gaming A15 accomplishes all export tasks in practically HALF  the time.

Display

In the Asus TUF Gaming A15 we get an IPS-level full HD 1080p screen with a revive pace of 144Hz and Adaptive Sync. While the screen manages to hit its promoted 144Hz invigorate rate on the Blur Busters UFO test, nonetheless, we saw that the reaction time wasn’t the quickest on the board. Gamers might find some issues with the screen refreshment rate, which flickers quite often. Hardware and Build

The keyboard of Asus TUF Gaming A15 is similar to the other versions of the keyboard as seen on previous TUF gaming models. The arrow keys are isolated from the other keys slightly to the bottom and a highlighted WASD keys designed specifically for gaming. A very old yet helpful concept has been applied to the trackpad by giving dedicated trackpad buttons referred to as Dedicated click-pad buttons.

An excellent feature of the Asus TUF Gaming A15 is the option to upgrade the Laptop. Most gamers prefer to upgrade their Laptop at a point in the future to get the maximum out of it. The Asus TUF Gaming can be paired with up to 32GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, and for storage, up to 1TB 5400RPM SATA HDD, along with up to 1TB PCIe Gen3 SSD options. Asus gives easy RAM and storage upgrade options as well and there’s up to 2 SSD slot for expansion as well.

Lastly, we’ve got a great selection of ports. On the right side is a singular USB 3.0 port while the left side houses the ethernet port, a full-sized HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports and a Type-C port as well. Lastly, gamers also get a combined headphone/microphone 3.5mm jack. It’s nice that Asus has bundled all the ports on the left side, keeping the right clear so that your hand can move freely while using an external mouse.

Some other basic features in the keyboard includes an extended spacebar, a multi-gesture supporting trackpad and an RGB backlit keyboard which are pretty common these days.

Variants

The Asus TUF Gaming A15 is going to have sevaral variants with a significant difference in their specs as well as their prices. The laptops is going to have four variants in GPU as we come to know from the official ASUS website, as weill as three variants of CPU all powered by the latest AMD Ryzen  4000 series.

Price

There’s been a lot of confusion regarding the price of the Laptop, as the laptop has just launched. Currently in the beginning of June 2020 the least price given in Amazon.in for the Asus TUF Gaming A15, is approximately 70,000 INR, which is pretty much above the expected price given in the official Asus India page. The main cause of this significantly high price of the laptop is due to because of the 3rd Partly Ratail sellers, who are selling the laptops at an higher price than the actual price of the Asus TUF Gaming A15. However, we can soon expect the price to reduce in about a month in time, as Asus starts to sell the Laptop directly in Amazon.

You also get a free XBOX Game Pass for a month which in it’s beta stage as an additional after purchasing the laptop. It’s a bit of a useless stuff that Asus is providing just to get a hype for their Product.

The new TUF A15 gaming laptop range starts from Rs 62,990 while the A17 starts at Rs 60,990. The TUF A15 Bonfire Black colour option will be available from Amazon India, while the A15 Fortress Gray colour option will be available across offline stores, Reliance Stores as well as Amazon India. The TUF A17 will be selling on Flipkart from mid June onwards.

We are currently testing the new TUF A15 loaded with the Ryzen 7 4800 CPU and GTX 1660Ti GPU. The notebook definitely feels solid and well suited for gaming enthusiasts and serious esports gamers.

 

Other Upcoming Laptops by Asus

 

The TUF Gaming A15 one model in a family of new TUF Gaming machines. Asus will also launch a 17-inch model with the prefix TUF Gaming A17. It’s very similar to the A15 except that it has a larger display with a 120 hertz refresh rate. 

There are even furthur news that there also will be a Intel versions called the TUF Gaming F15 and TUF Gaming F17. Those will be powered by the latest 10th Gen processors and still offer up to an RTX 2060 GPU.
